The service meets stringent industry standards. All communications during your Internet Banking session are encrypted using ´strong grade´ encryption, i.e. SSL 128 bit. Encryption is a process that transforms sensitive information into a string of unrecognisable characters before they are sent over the internet. Encryption helps provide a secure channel for data transmission between our computer system and your Internet browser to keep information private.
For further security, direct access to internet banking is disabled. You can only access it by clicking on the ´Logon to your Account´ button on our website. This also means that the internet banking logon page cannot be bookmarked.
In addition to strong encryption where any information is scrambled, you will need to input a unique Electronic/Personal Banking Number PBN and Password whenever you access this service. Your PBN and Password are both personal to you and help safeguard against your bank details being accessed by anybody else.
The Internet Banking service has timed log-outs, which means that Internet Banking sessions will end after some time of inactivity. This helps to protect you against unauthorised access. Please ensure you log off properly at the end of every Internet Banking session by using the logoff option appearing on every screen. Please avoid closing the browser window to exit the service.

Please refer to the Terms and Conditions for full details of your security duties in relation to the internet banking service. We also recommend that you read our ´Security Tips´section.

Internet Banking is accessed through a ´secured´ Internet site, which helps ensure your financial information remains private and secure. You will know you are at a secured site when you see the https:// (where ´s´ stands for ´secure´) in the address field on your browser and the padlock symbol in locked position at the bottom of your screen.

Because the security of our site is important to you, page expiry occurs to prevent the pages from being stored in your browser´s memory. This feature is included to ensure the confidentiality of your accounts. Navigation is best using the back buttons and menu options within the internet banking pages, rather than using the browser forward and backward arrows.

Your Password is important. Follow these tips when creating your Password:

Select a Password that cannot be easily guessed by anyone else. Do not associate your Password with anything personal such as birthdays, names, phone numbers or other familiar words.

Create a Password with letters, numbers or a combination of both, use upper and lower cases.

Your Password must never be given to any other party - not even to the staff of the Bank.

Never write or otherwise record your Password in a way that can be read or understood by someone else.

Never record your Password on any software which retains it automatically, (e.g. any computer screen prompts or ´save Password´ feature or the like on your Internet browser).

Change your Password regularly. Change your Password frequently if you access your account using a shared PC (e.g. internet cafe).

Do not use Password from other Internet sites.

If you suspect any unusual account activity, call our Call Centre on 0800-22044 (in Jordan) or (9714) 228-8007 (outside Jordan). In these circumstances, you should also immediately change your Password by selecting the ´Change Internet Banking Password´ option from the ´Online Services´ menu.

Install virus detection software on your computer. This needs to be updated regularly to ensure that you have the latest virus protection.

To prevent viruses or other unwanted problems, do not open attachments from unknown or untrustworthy sources. Do not install pirated software.

Know everyone who uses your computer and limit unauthorized access. Be aware of any public computer environment you use to access the service and ensure that the environment does not provide any opportunities for anyone to gain access to your Electronic/Personal Banking Number and Password.

You should never leave your PC unattended after you have accessed Internet Banking. Always log off after you have finished using the service.

If you forget to log off, or the system detects no activity for longer than 10 minutes, you will be automatically logged off.

If you forget your Password at any time, you should contact our Call Centre.

Do not conduct any banking transactions in a public place (i.e. internet cafe), as it is difficult to ensure that such PC´s are free of hacker programs (someone might be able to access your personal or account information).

Verify that the Internet address is the genuine HSBC website by double clicking the ´padlock´ icon at the bottom bar of the screen to check the security certificate of HSBC.
